ALIVE & well in Panama

Whew! Today at noon we sailed into the historic bay of Portobello, Panama and dropped the hook. First was a not-cooked-by-Terry-on-the-boat meal at a local eatery ($2.50US for roasted chicken, rice, beans and a small salad). Then it was off to find the internet!

So, here we sit in the one-roomed library finally making contact with all of our friends and family. There was no internet access this year in the Kuna Yala islands. Sure, there was internet last year, but things have a way of going 2 steps forward and 1 step backward here and the connection was lost. Rumor is that a new connection will be completed in March - but heck, we´re already on our way West/North now.

Anyway, I´ve been keeping notes and carefully filing my photos so expect some stories soon. We´ve had a wonderful couple of months with no disasters for us. But that wasn´t so for others and one sailboat sank suddenly during the crossing from Panama to Colombia. In the San Blas Islands it´s hard to remember which island is which. After all, they all are small islets, with palm trees, surrounded by white sand beaches and turquoise blue waters with gentle trade breezes.

The ever faithful sailing vessel Niki Wiki performed flawlessly and her crew (including our little gecko) is healthy. More news tomorrow including knitting adventures!
